Israel@60 Festival at the Levy Family Campus
Nearly 3,000 people attended the Israel@60 Festival at the Levy Family Campus on Sunday, May 11. The festival, which celebrated the 60th anniversary of Israel’s independence, featured youth choirs from Congregation Beth David and Congregation Shir Hadash, speakers from AIPAC and the Israel-Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, a film, art exhibits, carnival games, bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, a kite-flying contest, booths representing local Jewish organizations, synagogues and schools, Judaica vendors, and food booths sponsored by local restaurants & businesses
Other events during the week included a Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) ceremony and a Yom HaAtzma’ut (Israeli Independence Day) concert on May 7 at the Levy Family Campus; a sold-out film about Israel’s founding screened by the Silicon Valley Jewish Film Festival on May 8 at Camera 7 Cinema; a dance for 250 teens on May 10 in the APJCC Auditorium; and a variety of events sponsored by Silicon Valley Hillel at local college campuses.
The Israel@60 celebrations were funded by a grant from the Koret Foundation and organized by the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center with assistance from the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley, local synagogues, Yavneh Day School, the Silicon Valley Jewish Film Festival of the APJCC, Hillel of Silicon Valley, BBYO, Hadassah, Jewish Study Network, Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley, and other local Jewish organizations.
